We hope you like Gay's video. She shot it with her iPhone. Prince Nevermind spent all morning doing his hair for the shooting.

Finally. Prince Nevermind has finished his art quilt. It seems to have taken him (and Gay) forever. It might not have taken so long if Gay had not gotten side-tracked so many times. She had to assemble taborettes, set up shelves, sort Mardi Gras beads, shop for quilt fabric, lose her glove at Sam's and stress about that, clean the house, go to the doctor, work on her calendar, play on FaceBook, make pasta, go to quilt group, knit, knit, knit, sort her yarn stash, play on Ravelry and on and on and on.
Geee Wizzzz!!! She likes to pretend that all that is real work. But let me tell you, Boys and Girls, it is not.
I am thinking that Prince Nevermind, being new on the scene, did notice that Gay is not doing too much real artwork and may have just aimed his art quilt at her. Who am I to say for sure?

PS: Here is what he wrote on the quilt.
Beware
Beware the shiny object
and the brilliant bauble beyond
and the rabbit's worn path meandering,
meandering, meandering,
from tantalizing tidbit
to titillating trinket
. . . until you do not recall
the trail you left
the one that leads to
where you want to be.

This is serious, Friends. Gay has discovered quilting. She is spending way too much time and energy on it. She has not helped us with our body paint in weeks. Frankly, we are feeling neglected. A few of us met under the bed in the guest room when Gay was out shopping the other day. That's another thing: Gay goes shopping way to often; and then there is lunch with friends. Now the quilt group, every week, four hours. She did not even leave us any snake snacks out where we could find them.
Dorie is new to our community, but I must admit she is an asset. She suggested she sneak into Gay's bag and check the group out. She returned all excited; she says she understands Gay's fascination with it all. The folks at the quilt group were most friendly and interesting. They ooooed and ahhhhhed over Dorie. They shared a great lunch with her. But most of all Dorie got to help Gay with the quilt she is making. Dorie felt she was fulfilling her muse role quite well.
Okay, we can work with that.

PS: The quilt group makes these quilts to give away to groups who minister to those who are in need in some way or who need comfort and prayers. In 28 years, they have given away almost three thousand quilts. Most of the group are members of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Lexington, Kentucky.

I think about my country.
Do we limit ourselves to solutions that we can do, refusing to dream or learn anything new?
Or, do we decide to change things just for the sake of change, when we have no good reason to do so?
Are we stuck in that ninth grade mentality?

Lizards are our friends who more than anything else want to keep us safe. We can relax a bit when a Lizard is around because she will warn us when danger approaches, or we are getting ready to get ourselves into trouble.
The problem with Lizards, though, is that they have a hard time telling the difference between "real and present dangers" and imaginary ones.
It's those imaginary ones that usually get in the way of a Human's doing things that make a difference.
Think today about this "Lizard Lie": people will laugh at you.
Now if you are a stand-up comic, you may want people to laugh at you, but most of us are not. If we do something out of the ordinary and our acquaintances decide for some reason that what we did was not acceptable to them, then they might begin a cycle of making fun of us. They will point and laugh, mimic and laugh, deride and laugh, until everyone around them is doing likewise.
In Kindergarten the laughter will be to our face; as we get older the laughter will be more behind our back. But still they will make sure we know that we are being ridiculed. Because we have been "ridiculous," or so they say.
Watchful Lizards will be sure to warn us when we are on the verge of doing something worthy of ridicule--like painting a large painting in bold colors, or saying we are going to find a cure for cancer, or writing and performing a new song, or standing in front of the class to read our poem, or speaking out for someone who has been unjustly treated. The list goes. I am sure you can provide examples from your own life.
What to do?
1) Listen carefully for a while so that you know when a Lizard is talking to you.
2) When you hear the Lizard's voice, stop for a moment and evaluate whether the danger she is announcing is a life-threatening one, or not. Of course, you respond immediately to the life-threatening ones.
3) If she is squalking a "Lizard Lie," then tell her to be quiet and let you get on with your work.

PS: Maybe you should have a discussion with an Angel Snake. We have a long history of dealing with Lizards.

"I Feel So . . . Like . . . Patriotic" by Gay Pogue
2.5 x 3.5 inches
Gel pens on paper
We hope you enjoy these. We are encouraging Gay to pursue her art more. She spends too much time at school working on things. We think she should retire.
We are afraid there is a lizard at school that she is listening to. Next week we plan to go to her school and investigate the matter.

PS: Lizards are a very serious problem for creative people. Much of the work of Angel Snakes has to do with dealing with lizards.
