Angel Snakes

Ashland, Kentucky

We are finishing our packing this morning. Gay has put together a portable studio. Half of it is for our body paints. She is so generous with us. 

Ron is going to be the interim rector at Calvary Episcopal Church in Ashland for the next six months or so--until they call a new full time rector. Gay could not handle the idea of a complete move so they are leaving most everything here and have rented a tiny apartment at the Henry Clay House in Ashland. We will spend several days and nights a week there and then come back to Lexington for some R&R. 

We are just betting that there are other Angel Snakes in Ashland and Huntington, WV. We will keep you updated.

PS: Ashland is only a 1 hour and 45 minute drive from here through the Daniel Boone National Forest, lovely scenery.

PPS: Ashland used to be called Pogue's Landing. Imagine that.

 PPPS: There is a Hobby Lobby only two miles from the church. All will be well.

Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen

Yesterday Gay received notification that she was acceptec as an exhibiting member of the Kentucy Guild of Artists and Craftsmen.

Now back to work. We have much to do. We all need to redo our body paint and get ready for all the publicity photos that are sure to be taken of us. We could hardly sleep last night. Even Ace was up considering new shirt designs.

Fishing Around for Fun

Lila had a good time at Belterra getting to know the puffer fish. They had a brief conversation before we all went in to a fabulous brunch.

Lila and the Long Arm Quilting Machine

Yesterday, we all went with Janet Serrenho and Sharon to Kay's Machine Quilting and Frugal Fabrics in Ghent, Kentucky. The shop is way out in the middle of the countryside. We had to take several one-lane roads to get there, but the rewards were great. We got to see her two Long Arm quilting machines on which she can quilt a whole large quilt at one time. The machine that Lila is inspecting is computerized. Boys and girls, this is an amazing machine. Gay touched it longingly, but we reminded her that she had no room in her studio for such a machine, and no way she could justify it in the stash budget. 

No matter, Kay can do the work for her.

Lila Attends Christmas Tea (and Behaves Herself)

Lila attended the Ladies' Christmas Tea yesterday. Gay took her hoping that the dignified manners of the other attendees would rub off on her. We have been trying to teach her such things, but she continues to revert to her former ways after a short time. 

Since there were no men or male Angel Snakes at the table, Lila was able to give her full attention to the conversation and the food, of which there was plenty.  

The lesson seems to have been successful because last night Lila asked to be served her roasted vegetables  on a china plate rather than the pottery.

Tracy the Buffalo

Tracy the Buffalo came to visit Ron and Gay. Zinetta and Lex are having a great time getting to know him. Tracy is taking some time off from his job at the Buffalo Trace distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. He is worn out from all the tours he has been giving and the silly questions people ask.

Snakes & Ladders in the Studio

Dear Reader,

We have been working verey hard in the studio. As you know, Gay is working on a series of small art quilts that show all sorts of Angel Snake houses. We had been trying for some time to convince her to do this project. Finally, she agreed. It is hard work. Trust me.

The younger Angel Snakelets are not into hard work and would rather play. They don't want to go outside saying it is either raining or too hot. Gay refuses to buy them any video games. She says the noise distracts her and there are no earphones that will fit the little darlings. She did find them a small "Snakes & Ladders" set which they can play on the table when Gay is not slicing and dicing. Fortunately, not too many arguments have resulted from their gaming.

PS: Little Jean got all excited when she rolled "snake eyes." Too bad those were not the points she needed. Bless her heart. 

Petting Pepper, the Pampered Pelican

 

Although we have not heard from them in a while, Nuncio and Mickey have not forgotten us and checked in with this report:

Delores and Lynn traveled to Galveston; as hot as it is there, it is cooler than Arlington, Texas. Lynn was visiting the Coast Guard base, and Delores and Mickey wandered down to the pier.

Pelicans are not generally all that friendly to humans, but Mickey struck up a conversation with Pepper and soon Delores and Pepper also became friends, enough that Delores could pet his lovely brow.
